Bhubaneswar: Unbeaten centuries by England’s Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow helped the home team beat India by 7 wickets in the fifth and final test played at Edgbaston that ended on Tuesday.
Resuming with overnight score of 259/3, Root remained not out with 142 off 173 balls and Bairstow slammed 114 off 145 balls to achieve the required 119 runs to tie the series being played for the Pataudi Trophy. With this, India lost out on their first series victory in England since 2007.
However, on brighter side for India, Jasprit Bumrah was declared Man of the Series for his excellent show with both ball and the bat.
