Cuttack: Amid talks of transformation of SCB Medical College and Hospital (MCH) here into a world-class institution, a video of a patient being administered insulin by her attendant in the corridor of the neurology department under a mobile phone’s light has gone viral, exposing the pathetic health facility at Odisha’s leading hospital.
In the video, the husband of the female patient can be seen drawing insulin from a vial and injecting it into her with another woman holding the mobile phone. This incident took place around 1.30 pm when the power supply was reportedly disrupted for more than half an hour.
“There was no power supply and the generator set was also not functioning. There were no staff nurse at duty room. My wife was hungry and required insulin before having her meal. On the advice of a relative, I drew the required amount of insulin and administered it to her,” the man told TNIE.
He further said that his wife is being treated on the floor along the corridor due to unavailability of beds in the ward.
SCB MCH administrative officer Abinash Rout told the daily that the matter would be looked into.
In July, Secretary to Odisha CM (5T) VK Pandian reviewed the ongoing development works at SCBMCH and directed officials fortimely completion of the project. A major part of the modernisation project is expected to be completed by this year.
The project is being implemented on 175 acre of land at a cost of Rs 3,500 crore and include a state-of-the art 3,000 bed integrated hospital.
