Cuttack: A COVID-19 patient allegedly attempted suicide at Tangi DRIEMS COVID Care Centre (CCC) in Cuttack by slitting his throat with a knife on Friday.
According to sources, the patient was shifted to the Surgery Ward in SCB Medical College and Hospital here in a critical condition. An operation will be conducted to remove the knife stuck in his neck.
Notably, the patient, whose identity is yet to be revealed, belongs to Cuttack. He was admitted to the centre two days ago.
“He had taken a knife with him to the hospital to cut fruits and tried to kill himself using it,” said his brother.
The patient owns a cellphone shop, which has remained closed due to lockdown. “Illness due to COVID and stress could have prompted him to take the extreme step,” he added.
