Patient Commits ‘Suicide’ During Treatment In Rourkela Hospital

Rourkela: A patient undergoing treatment at government hospital in the city allegedly committed suicide late Saturday night.

According to sources, the patient, identified as Sahar Jhara of Kuanrmunda village under Biramitrapur block of Sundargarh, fractured his leg while taking bath in river near his village on Wednesday. His family members admitted him in Government Hospital at Rourkela.

The fractured leg of Jhara was plastered and he was advised to take rest in the hospital. On Saturday night, he came out of his ward and hanged himself with a towel from the iron grill of the hospital verandah.

On being informed by hospital authorities about the incident, a team from Raghunathpalli police station came to the hospital on Sunday morning and seized the body. After preliminary inquiry, they sent the body for post-mortem.

According to family members of 45-year-old Jhara, he was mentally unstable and his wife had deserted him 7-8 years back.
