Balangir: A patient was critically injured after falling from the second floor of the medicine ward at Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Odisha’s Balangir on Monday.
The patient, identified as Purnachandra Sahu of Kharselpada, was admitted to the medicine ward of the hospital on July 12. The incident took place when two iron plates installed for safety near the staircase reportedly broke, causing the patient to fall, sources said.
While the exact reason behind the fall is yet to be ascertained, hospital officials said Sahu sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the surgery for treatment.
A probe has been launched into the incident under the supervision of the hospital superintendent, who stated that the incident is being taken seriously and all angles are under investigation.
The family members of the injured patient alleged that the incident took place due to negligence and a lack of safety infrastructure within the hospital building. They demanded action against the hospital staff responsible for security and maintenance.
Hospital authorities said the circumstances leading to the incident will be thoroughly probed, and appropriate action taken based on the findings.
The Town police have been informed about the incident, and the exact cause and circumstances of the fall will be ascertained, while the patient is being provided with necessary treatment, Superintendent of Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital, Manasi Panda told reporters.
