Jajpur: A patient was killed and four others sustained grievous injuries after an ambulance they were travelling crashed into a tree here on Friday.
The mishap took place when the ambulance was on its way from a private hospital in Cuttack to Jajpur. According to sources, the driver lost control of the vehicle due to over speeding and rammed into a tree by the highway.
The accident occurred near Barhampur area under Binjharpur police limits. While the patient died on the spot, the condition of three relatives of the patient and ambulance driver was stated to be critical.
The injured are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Jajpur, the sources added. Local police have registered a case and sent the body of the deceased for autopsy.
