Pay Rs 50 Lakh To Bilkis Bano, SC Tells Guj Govt

The Supreme Court Tuesday directed the Gujarat government to pay Rs 50 lakh, within two weeks, in compensation to Bilkis Bano, who was gangraped during the 2002 riots, various agencies have reported. The court also asked the state government to provide her a government job and government accommodation.

A pregnant Bilkis Bano was gangraped on March 3, 2002, in Randhikpur village, while fleeing violence after a train was torched in Godhra in Gujarat. Fourteen members of her family were killed.
