Pay Your Pending Bills Or Lose Your Power Disconnection From Jan 16, Says CESU

Bhubaneswar: Power distribution company Central Electricity Supply Utility (CESU) on Thursday gave the final ultimatum to consumers to deposit their pending bills by January 15, failing which, it will disconnect their power from January 16.

Briefing the media here, CESU Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Arun Bothra, said out of 7 lakh domestic consumers, only 1.10 lakh have deposited their pending bills amounting to Rs 21 crore while the remaining bill amount Rs 1971 crore is yet to be deposited.

Stating that CESU has identified 11,397 villages for disconnection of power, Bothra said 413 special squads have been formed to disconnect power.

“We have sent fresh notice to 8.36 lakh domestic consumers and 59,190 commercial consumers to deposit the pending bills within the specified date. Moreover, the state government has assured us of depositing all pending bills of 5965 government consumers amounting to Rs 64.35 crore by March 31,” the CEO added.

“We don’t intend to disconnect power from the houses of our consumers. We want to provide them uninterrupted power. But if they don’t pay us the power bill, we have no option except to deprive them of power,” he pointed out.
