Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government will provide PDS (public distribution system) kerosene to each beneficiary family from August 1 this year.
Announcing this in the State Assembly on Wednesday, Food Supply and Consumer Welfare minister Ranendra Pratap Swain said the state government was earlier providing 2.5 litres PDS kerosene to each beneficiary. However, the Centre, which was providing the state’s annual quota of 20,700 kilolitres till July 2019, has reduced it to 16,384 kilolitres.
“Due to the reduction in the annual quota, the average distribution of PDS kerosene per beneficiary has come down to 1.89 litre. However, the state government has decided to provide 2 litres of kerosene from August 1,” the minister added.
