Mumbai: The makers of ‘Peddi’ have decided to rework some of Janhvi Kapoor’s scenes after many viewers criticised her hyper-sexualised portrayal in the film’s promotional material.
Acknowledging concerns raised by the audience, ‘Peddi’ director Buchi Babu Sana has apologised to viewers and assured that necessary changes would be made to ensure the character is presented in a more balanced and respectful manner.
The director took to X on Saturday and wrote: “As a filmmaker, I believe cinema should entertain, inspire, and connect with audiences. It should never make anyone feel uncomfortable or disrespected. We have heard the feedback regarding certain scenes in Peddi and have taken it seriously. I have always had immense respect for women, both on and off screen, and it was never our intention to objectify or disrespect any female character. If any part of the film has been perceived that way, we respect those sentiments, understand the concerns being raised, and sincerely apologise.”
“After reviewing the feedback, we have decided to make changes to the concerned portions. Cinema grows through its connection with audiences, and as storytellers, we have a responsibility to be mindful of evolving perspectives and sensitivities. Every woman deserves to be respected, valued, and represented with dignity. We remain committed to telling stories that celebrate strong characters and uphold those values,” the director added.
“Thank you to everyone who shared their views honestly and sincerely.”

‘Peddi’ is a sports drama that stars Ram Charan in the lead role, with Janhvi playing Achiyamma, his love interest.
Despite the film’s strong box-office performance, several viewers disapproved of the way Janhvi’s character is portrayed, arguing that she serves little purpose beyond being a romantic interest.
Critics have also raised concerns about certain scenes involving Peddi’s behaviour towards her, describing them as dismissive of her personal boundaries and consent.
‘Peddi’ has reportedly collected Rs 150 crore worldwide within just two days of its release.
