Boudh: Two persons died while three others were critically injured in a series of road accidents involving an SUV and five motorcycles near Bariha Chhak in Odisha’s Boudh district on Thursday morning.
According to sources, the accident took place when an SUV en route to Balangir from Bhubaneswar overturned after crashing into five motorcycles and then ramming a roadside hotel. Gobnida Sahu, a Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) who was riding one of the motorcycles, died on the spot. A resident of Ainlapali, he was on his way to the panchayat office to attend the unfurling of the national flag on Republic Day.
The other deceased was standing at the hotel.
The SUV and the motorcycles were badly mangled under the impact of the collision.
Soon after the incident, tension erupted at the spot as irate locals blocked National Highway 57 by burning tyres and sought compensation for the bereaved families.
