Bhubaneswar: A Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance in Kalahandi district on Monday for allegedly taking Rs 10,000 bribe for release of payment of workers under MGNREGA scheme.
The accused was identified as Sanyasi Nayak, PEO of Kaniguma Gram Panchayat under Thuamul Rampur block.
He was caught by Vigilance at Bhawanipatna while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs. 10,000/- from a complainant for processing muster roll and release of payment of workers under MGNREGA Scheme, an official release said.
The entire bribe money has been recovered from Nayak and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at three locations of Nayak from DA angle.
In this connection, a case has been registered and investigation is in progress.
