Shimla: The best way to ensure that everyone wears a mask while stepping out of home is to fine them if they violate that ‘rule’.
That’s the policy being followed by the Sirmaur district administration in Himachal Pradesh.
Repeated advisories on strictly implementing COVID-19 guidelines having fallen on deaf ears, an order has been issued by the Sirmaur Superintendent of Police whereby anyone caught not wearing a mask in public places will be liable to arrest without warrant. And if convicted on that ground, that person will face imprisonment for up to eight days or fined up to Rs 5,000.
“Any person found not wearing mask shall be liable to arrest without warrant and on conviction shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to eight days or fine which may extend up to Rs 5,000,” the order stated.
With coronavirus cases rising in Himachal, night curfew from has been imposed from 8 pm to 6 am in Shimla, Mandi, Kangra and Kullu.
A door-to-door campaign has also been started by the state government to screen people.
