Balianta: Life was thrown out of gear in several areas of Balipatna block of Khurda district as floodwater entered five panchayats here. Floods are triggered in Bainchua and Bhargavi rivers due to the swelling of Mahanadi river at Mundali.
On the other hand, acres of farmlands are submerged in floodwater. Farmers in the area are perturbed by the threat of crop failure. The administration has provided three machine-powered boats for the flood-hit villages.
Jaydev (Khurda) MLA Arvind Dhali visited Kurunjipur, Dorbag, Tarboi, Kulantira, Darda, Bindha and Achyutpur to witness the situation.
Hundreds of residents from Rajas, Pampalo, Alisi and Kurunjipur panchayats are affected after Bhargavi river flooded Achyutpur village. More than 30 villages are marooned by the floodwater. Roads connecting from Rajas to Balipatna, Nischintpur, and Garia, Madhuban to Alisi and Ghasiandhanti to Indolkusiyari have been disrupted due to overflowing of water.
In some areas, people are unable to come out of their houses. Arrangements are being made by the administration to evacuate them.
Block Development Officer (BDO) Mitanjali Das visited the area in the Tinkipada on Monday and took stock of the situation. The sarpanch of the panchayat has been asked to list out the affected people.
