Bhubaneswar: The Twin City Commissioner of Police (CP), Sudhanshu Sarangi, on Tuesday said Odisha has reported more than Rs 1.4 crore cyber fraud in the last month.
Briefing the media here, he mentioned about 1207 fraud calls to Odisha. While about Rs 50 lakh fraud was reported in Bhubaneswar through 368 fraud calls and the rest amount was siphoned off through 839 fraud calls outside Bhubaneswar.
Sarangi said that those calls were made from outside the state and police has so far blocked 239 SIM cards.
Of a total of Rs 7.19 transactions blocked by the police, some amount has been refunded to the customers, he added.
Maintaining that most of the cyber frauds were committed from the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), he advised the people to remain alert.
The CP further said that a proposal for setting up a dedicated cyber crime police station in Bhubaneswar has already been submitted to the state government and the Odisha Police. The proposed unit is likely to come up this year, he informed.
