Bhubaneswar: Asish Mahakul, the Personal Security Officer (PSO) of MLA and former mayor of Bhubaneswar Ananta Narayan Jena, died of COVID-19 infection in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
According to sources, the swab samples of MLA Jena, his PSO and his driver were sent for the COVID-19 test on August 17 and the result was found to be positive.
Following which, Mahakul (45) was in home quarantine but was later admitted to the Hi-Tech Hospital on August 21 due to fever, cough and cold. He was further shifted to ICU on August 25 and was placed on a ventilator.
PSO served the seventh Battalion for 20 years since 1955, after which he joined the Reserve Police. His last rites were performed at the Satyanagar Cemetery.
