Perth: In a shocking incident of breach of privacy, some individuals barged into Virat Kohli’s hotel room in Perth, filmed his personal belongings and made the video public.
Lashing out at the “appalling” incident, the Team India batsman shared the video on Instagram and wrote he was “not okay with fanaticism.”
Crown Resorts, the hotel which was left red-faced, apologized to Kohli, the Indian team and the International Cricket Council and fired those involved in the breach of privacy.
The video of Kohli’s hotel room was also taken down from the social media handle of the concerned individuals.
“The safety and privacy of our guests is our number one priority, and we are incredibly disappointed this incident has occurred. We unreservedly apologise to the guest involved and will continue to take necessary steps to ensure this remains an isolated incident,” Crown said in a statement.
“We have zero tolerance for this behaviour, and it falls well below the standards we set for our team members and contractors. Crown has taken immediate steps to rectify the issue. The individuals involved have been stood down and removed from the Crown account, and the original video was swiftly removed from the social media platform,” the statement further said.
Kohli was left fuming when he came across the video of his hotel room.
“If I cannot have privacy in my own hotel room, then where can I really expect any personal space at all?? I’m NOT okay with this kind of fanaticism and absolute invasion of privacy. Please respect people’s privacy and not treat them as a commodity for entertainment,” he wrote.
Watch the video shared by Kohli:
Australian opener commented: “This is ridiculous, totally unacceptable. Was this @crownperth.”
Kohli’s wife Anushka Sharma also gave the offender a piece of her mind.
“Have experienced few incidents, where fans have shown no compassion or grace in the past but this really is the worst thing. An absolute disgrace and violation of a human being and anyone who sees this and thinks celebrity ho! Toh deal karna padega should know that you are also part of the problem. Exercising some self control helps everyone. Also, if this is happening in your bedroom then where is the line,” the actress wrote.
