Cuttack: A professor has filed a petition in the Orissa High Court challenging the constitutional validity of the Odisha Universities (Amendment) Act, 2020.

The petition, filed by Prof Ajit Kumar Mohanty, state that the Act is an attempt by the state government to curb the freedom of the universities. It is also against the National Education Policy (NEP) and violates the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines, the petitioner stated.

Stating that it is not within the powers of the government to make such an amendment and hence unconstitutional, he appealed to the court to repeal it.

Prof Mohanty filed the petition under Article 226 read with 227, Articles 14, 16, 19, and 21 of the Constitution of India challenging the constitutional validity of the Odisha Universities (Amendment) Act, 2020 on Monday.
