Bhubaneswar: Fuel prices have skyrocketed in the last five months. Petrol price has increased by Rs 4.66 a litre and that of diesel by Rs 6.35 a litre.
A litre of petrol in Mumbai now costs Rs 90.08. In Delhi, it is Rs 82.72. The price of petrol here in Bhubaneswar also crossed the Rs 80 mark for the first time and is now available at Rs 81.63 a litre. Petrol was priced here at Rs 71.69 in March this year.
The price of diesel is also inching close to Rs 80 a litre in Bhubaneswar. It is currently priced at Rs 78.58 per litre in Mumbai and Rs 74.02 in Delhi.
The Union government attributed the rise in fuel prices to global crude oil prices and other international factors such as the Iran crisis. The opposition, however, having been blaming the Centre for not taking enough measures to control it.
