Bhubaneswar: Eminent poet Prasanna Kumar Mishra’s 82nd birth anniversary ‘Phalguna Aasara’ was observed at Buddha Mandir in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
Speaking on this occasion, eminent poet Aprana Mohanty said that Mishra was a natural poet. “His poetic excellence will enrich Odia literature for all time to come. His poetry collection ‘Manikara Priya’ and ‘Truck Dalare Sanatan’ has made him immortal”.
His friend and poet Ashutosh Parida analytically spoke about his works. “He used simple words to make an impact on the readers. His progressive writings and his concern for ordinary people were always reflected in his poems. It is hard to sum up his work in one speech”.
Note dramatist Ramesh Panigrahi spoke about his association with Mishra. “Though Mishra was mostly known as a poet, his also left a mark with his plays like ‘Subarna Basudha’ and ‘Majura Chithi’.”
Poet and columnist Kedar Mishra added, “Mishra’s brilliant work in different forms of writing is rarest in Odia literature. Odisha has not yet awarded him rightfully”.
His poems were recited by Chirashree Indrasingh, Manua Dash, Debadutta Pati, Ankit Mishra and Somali Mishra. His daughter and storyteller Prachitara narrated his story ‘Betal’ written in 1983.
Mishra has been conferred with Odisha Sahitya Akademi award, Sarala Award, Bishuba Award, Jhankara Puraskar and many more prestigious accolades. His other important works include ‘Janapatha’, ‘Kharare Bangara Loka’ and plays ‘Janasebaka’, ‘Asha Kanana’ and novels ‘Asura’, ‘Badhipanira Danta’.
