Balangir: With chunks of concrete slabs falling from the ceiling of a primary health centre (PHC) at Dandamuda village under Khaprakhol block in Odisha’s Balangir district, a pharmacist was seen wear helmet inside the facility on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, a large piece of concrete slab fell off from the ceiling while pharmacist Sumant Nayak was distributing medicines among a few patients. Though no casualty or injury was reported, the incident triggered fear among the staff and patients.
“The incident took place at around 8.30 am yesterday. I and a few patients had a narrow escape. Following which, I decided to keep the motorcycle helmet on,” Nayak said.
According to sources, the Out Patient Department (OPD) building of the health centre was constructed only five years ago. Concrete chunks are peeling off due to sub-standard construction work, the locals alleged and sought an inquiry into the matter.
Medical officer of Dhandamunda PHC, Balakrushna Purohit, said he had verbally communicated to the authorities concerned about the need to repair the hospital building.
