Physics Lecturer Of Junior College Arrested For ‘Molesting’ Girl Student In Odisha’s Sambalpur

Sambalpur: Police on Tuesday arrested lecturer of a a junior college under Naktideul police limits in Odisha’s Sambalpur district for allegedly molesting a girl student of the institute.

According to the complaint lodged by the 16-year-old girl of Deogarh district, accused Sanjib Kumar Dash asked the girl and two of her friends to clean physics laboratory on December 24. When her friends went outside the laboratory to dump garbage, he allegedly touched her inappropriately. The girl then left the lab in a huff, but the teacher continued to molest her during the next several days.

The victim, who resides in the college hostel, told her family about the incident while home during vacation.

Following which, the girl and her family submitted a formal complaint with the principal of college on February 2. They later approached Naktideul police on Monday evening as college authorities did not take any action against the lecturer and instead tried to settle the matter.

On basis of the complaint, police registered a case against the accused under Sections 341 and 354-A of the IPC, and Section 10 of the POCSO Act. He was detained for questioning and later arrested and produced before a local court.
