Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government plans to set up a physiotherapy clinic and a mobile health unit for senior citizens in each district of the state.
These clinics will cater to people above 60 years of age in rural and backward areas.
The clinics will be set up in all 30 districts under the State Action Plan for Welfare of Senior Citizens (SAPSrC) to be run by the Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) department, according to media reports.
Agencies with experience of running welfare projects for senior citizens will be asked to manage the physiotherapy clinics.
At the mobile healthcare units, senior citizens can avail allopathic, homeopathic and auyrvedic treatment. Charitable hospitals, nursing homes or medical institutions will run the clinics. The mobile units will be staffed by a doctor, a nurse, a driver and staff to distribute medicines and get lab tests done.
Besides, the government is also focusing on trained geriatric caregivers for the elderly.
