Picture Of Philanthropist Beggar Tula Mausi From Odisha Finds Place In Central Govt Calendar

Bhubaneswar: The picture of philanthropist beggar Tula Mausi from Odisha’s Phulbani has found place in Government of India’s calendar for 2025.

The photograph of Tula Mausi shaking hands with Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been published in the first page of the calendar for the month of January, 2025. Railway and Information & Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had officially released the calendar on January 6.

The image of the philanthropist beggar in the calendar drew appreciation from all quarters and spread happiness among the people of Phulbani.

Expressing her pleasure on the matter, Tula Mausi thanked the Prime Minister. Mausi, who still continues to beg before temples in the town, has appealed to Modi to build an ashram for the beggars in the area.

It may be noted that Mausi used to save some part of the collection from begging and had donated Rs one lakh from her earning to the Jagannath temple at Phulbani. When the Prime Minister was informed about her during a visit to Phulbani, he called her to the stage at a public meeting and felicitated her.

The picture in the calendar features the one taken at the time. Senior BJP leader Ramesh Chandra Mohanty had played a significant role in this regard.
