Dhenkanal: A pigeon was found with suspicious chips fitted to its legs in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Sunday.
As per reports, the pigeon had flown in and taken rest in the house of a villagers in Launadi village under Sarangi forest range in the district. As the village was struck by thunderstorm at the time, the pigeon could not fly away against the strong wind.
Suspecting that something had stuck in the pigeon’s legs, the house owner caught hold of it. On checking the bird’s legs, he found those to be chips. The villagers informed the local police about the pigeon.
The police went to the village and took possession of the pigeon. Later, they informed the Forest department. A fter a team of officials from Sarangi forest range arrived at the village, the police handed over the pigeon to them.
They suspected that the pigeon might have been used for spying for which the microchips were fitted to its legs. They could not decipher what was written on the chips as it was not in Indian language, the sources said.
However, they said the chips would be sent to their office in Bhubaneswar and the purpose of the chips would be known after the chips are examined in the laboratory.
It may be noted that a pigeon, suspected of being used for spying, was by some fishermen in their boat in Paradip in March last year.
