PIL Seeks CBI Probe Into Odisha Inspector’s ‘Mysterious’ Death, Polygraph Test Of 2 Cops

Cuttack: A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the Orissa High Court on Monday, seeking a CBI probe into the mysterious death of Gangapur police station IIC Dev Kumar Gamang.

Bharatiya Vikash Parishad, an NGO, which filed the PIL, has also demanded a polygraph test of two policemen, who are suspects in the case. Bhanjanagar SDPO, IIC and 5 others have been mentioned as respondents in the petition.

The IIC had died of bullet injuries under mysterious circumstances at his quarters in Ganjam district on March 25. A native of Jeypore in Koraput district, he was posted at Gangapur around four months back and was reportedly under mental duress over some personal issues.

Sources said Gamang did not report to work on the day and his mother informed a sub-inspector (SI) of the police station that he was unwell. A doctor later visited him at their quarters and gave him some medicines. Around noon, his mother heard gunshots and found Gamang in a pool of blood. He was rushed to Aska sub-divisional hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.

Ganjam SP Brijesh Kumar Rai had earlier told the media that Gamang sustained bullet injuries on his waist.

His wife is also an inspector-ranked officer and is posted in Nabarangpur district.
