Bhubaneswar: A pink team, comprising women from different areas of expertise has been formed to investigate into the frauds committed by fake doctor Ramesh Swain.
Police Commissioner Soumendra Priyadarshi informed mediapersons on Friday that the ‘Pink Team’ mostly comprises of senior woman officers, chartered account, legal advisors and other financial experts.
Swain was found to be involved in cheating around 19 women and other businessmen to the tune of around Rs 1.5 crore, as per a preliminary estimate.
The team will be headed by an Additional DCP rank officer and if needed, the team will also be sent outside Odisha, Priyadarshi said.
About 14 cases are registered against Swain and Commissionerate Police is in touch with various banks to unearth the financial transactions of Swain.
Meanwhile, the Court of SDJM Bhubaneswar on Friday granted a police remand of three more days for the fake doctor. The Commissionerate Police had prayed for 7-day remand of Swain to further probe him in the new cases as well as other registered against him. However, the court granted three days to the police. Earlier, the court had allowed the police five-day remand of Swain who is facing charges of fraud.
On Thursday a woman doctor from Assam had filed a complaint at mahila Police station accusing Swain of marrying and later duping her of Rs 21 lakh besides other valuables. She also identified his sister Rashmita, whom the police has arrested in connection with the fraud cases.
