Puri: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is on course for a convincing victory in the bypoll to the Pipili Assembly constituency.
Till reports last came in, the ruling party candidate Rudra Pratap Maharathy was ahead of his nearest rival and BJP candidate Ashrit Pattanayak by 20,838 votes at the end of the 23rd-round counting.
While Maharathy received 89,211 votes, Pattanayak polled 68,373 votes. Congress’ Bishwokeshan Harichandan Mohapatra got 4,063 votes.
The final results will be announced after the 25th round counting.
