Bhubaneswar: The Election Commission of India has rescheduled the date for Pipili by-election in Odisha’s Puri district in view of Eid celebration.
Odisha Chief Electoral Officer Sushil Kumar Lohani informed media persons on Thursday that the bypoll will now be held on May 16 instead of May 13.
Accordingly, the counting of votes is rescheduled to May 19, he added.
The CEO said as per the ECI notification Eid al-Fitr is likely to fall on May 13 and some voters might face inconvenience to come for polling. Therefore, the bypoll has been rescheduled, he added.
The bypoll was first slated for April 17 and had to be changed following the death of Congress candidate Ajit Mangaraj on April 14.
