Puri/Bhubaneswar: The voter turnout in the ongoing bypoll to Pipili constituency has gained momentum and gone up to 45.32 per cent by 1 pm on Thursday.
Talking to mediapersons in Bhubaneswar, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sushil Kumar Lohani said that the polling in all booths was going on smoothly and no incident of law and order problem has been reported so far.
He said during the mock poll, technical glitches were found in two ballot units, two control units and 12 Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) units. However, they were immediately replaced and polling began at 7 am.
He further said for the first time, 20 model booths have been set up with extra facilities like voting sheds, sitting arrangements and adequate supply of drinking water.
The CEO hoped that considering the dry weather, the voter turnout will go up further later in the day.
The voter turnout was 7.8 per cent by 9 am, two hours after the polling began.
