Kolkata: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly set rumour mills abuzz with a statement on Twitter on Wednesday evening saying that he was ‘planning to start something’.
Pointing out that 2022 was the 30th year since the start of his cricketing journey, the former Team captain said that cricket has given him a lot.
“Most importantly, it has given me the support of all of you,” he wrote, thanking everyone who has been a part of the journey, supported him and helped him reach where he is today.
Then comes the googly.
“Today, I am planning to start something that I feel will probably help a lot of people. I hope you continue your support as I enter this chapter of my life,” Ganguly stated without any further specification.
Social media and TV channels went on overdrive trying to interpret Ganguly’s message.
Some reports suggested that he had quit as BCCI president. However, BCCI secretary Jay Shah clarified that was not the case.
“The rumours doing the rounds about Mr Sourav Ganguly stepping down from the post of BCCI president are factually incorrect. We have some exciting times in the form of media rights coming up and my colleagues and I are completely focused on the upcoming opportunity and safeguarding the interest of Indian cricket,” Jay was quoted as saying by ANI.
There was another theory that Ganguly will be nominated as a member of Rajya Sabha.
There have been several reports in the past hinting that Ganguly was about to take the plunge in politics. However, the man himself has always dismissed that possibility.
Last month, there was even speculation that his wife Dona Ganguly, a reputed Odissi dancer, will be nominated to Rajya Sabha by President Ram Nath Kovind.
Well, it seems the suspense will continue until we hear from the horse’s mouth.
