New Delhi: The Centre has decided to set up a plastic park in Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha during the 2019-20 fiscal, said Union Fertiliser and Chemicals Minister D.V. Sadanand Gowda in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
The Union minister, in a written reply, said as per the guidelines, the state governments will ensure all statutory approvals including environment clearance apart from the implementation of the proposed project.
Gowda said apart from Jagatsinghpur, three plastic parks will be set up in Tinsukia district of Assam, Raisen district in Madhya Pradesh and Thiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu.
The Union minster said that the objective of setting up the plastic park is to increase the competitiveness, polymer absorption capacity and value addition in the domestic downstream plastic processing industry. This will be done through adaptation of modern, research and development-led measures; increased investment in the sector through addition in capacity and production; creating quality infrastructure and other facilitation to ensure value addition and increase in exports; achieve environmentally sustainable growth through innovative methods of waste management; recycling, etc. and adopt a cluster development approach to achieve these objectives.
