Bhubaneswar: Playback singer from Odisha Debesh Pati has been arrested by Nayapalli police over alleged betrayal after a love affair.
According to sources, police took him into custody while he was attending an event in Jajpur about two days ago for questioning on the basis of a complaint lodged by a woman from Bhadrak. He was later arrested on Thursday and forwarded to court.
Pati has been booked under Sections 376, 420 and 506 of IPC and Section 66 of the IT Act.
In her complaint with Nayapalli police in January, the woman alleged that Pati induced her into a sexual relationship under false pretext of marriage. He also took substantial amount of money from her and distanced himself from her when she confronted him to return her money. She also accused him of torturing her physically and mentally.
Pati also allegedly terminated her pregnancy and threatened to make pictures of their intimate moments viral when she insisted on marriage. There is also allegation of love triangle in this case and the woman has accused him of having an affair with a fellow singer.
The arrest was made on the basis of WhatsApp chat and money transactions between the two. Police are also looking for the person, who reportedly introduced the complainant to the singer, the sources added.
A native of Jajpur, Pati currently resides at Nayapalli. He had gained popularity with his song, Lachaka Mani Baby.
His family, however, has hinted at a bigger conspiracy in the case.
