New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced an economic package worth Rs 20 lakh crore focussing on land, labour, liquidity and law to help migrants, farmers, honest tax payers, MSMEs and cottage industry.
“We are in a state of war against coronavirus. This is the biggest challenge for humanity, but India will neither get tired nor give up. We have to protect ourselves and move ahead as well. Coronavirus crisis is a huge opportunity to make the 21st century belong to India,” he said in a televised address to the nation.
The PM said that India didn’t produce any PPE before COVID-19 crisis and manufactured very few N-95 masks. “Now, we are producing 2 lakh of each,” he said.
He further said that self-reliant India was essential but it did not mean a self-centred approach.
The Finance Minister will announce details of the Rs 20 lakh crore economic package on Wednesday, he added.
The package comes close on the heels of the PM’s interaction with Chief Ministers on ways to deal with the spread of coronavirus and also boost economic activity, on Monday.
