PM, Cong Leaders Pay Tribute To Jawaharlal Nehru On His Death Anniversary

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several other leaders paid homage to the first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru, on his 54th death anniversary.

“Tributes to our first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his death anniversary,” Modi tweeted.

He also mentioned Jawaharlal Nehru during his Mann Ki Baat address.

“…today is May 27, the death anniversary of the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru ji. I render my pranam to Pandit ji,” he said.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President Rahul Gandhi and AICC General Secretary Ashok Gehlot also paid tributes to the iconic Congress leader at his memorial in Shanti Van, New Delhi.

MP Praful Patel and senior NCP leader tweeted a quote by Nehru and wrote, “My Tributes to the first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru ji on his remembrance day.”

Nehru was born on November 14, 1889, and died on May 27, 1964.

He held the position of Prime Minister of India from August 15, 1947, to May 27, 1964. Born into a Kashmiri Pandit family, he served as the President of Indian National Congress twice during the freedom struggle.
