Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s aircraft will skip the Pakistan airspace and instead fly via Oman, Iran and Central Asian countries en route to Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan for the two-day Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meet, beginning Thursday.

Pakistan has opened only two of the 11 routes, which it had closed following the Indian Air Force (IAF) strike in Balakot on February 26, reported NDTV.

India had requested Pakistan to let PM Modi’s aircraft fly over its airspace to Bishkek for the meet.

On Monday, PTI had quoted an unnamed official as saying that the Imran Khan government had “approved in principle” the Indian government’s request.

Earlier, Pakistan had given special permission to the then external affairs minister, Sushma Swaraj, to use its airspace for attending the SCO Foreign Ministers’ meet in Bishkek on May 21.
