New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the submarine optical fibre cable (OFC) connecting Chennai to Port Blair in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The submarine cable will also connect Port Blair to Swaraj Deep (Havelock), Little Andaman, Car Nicobar, Long Island and Rangat islands.
“Inauguration of the submarine OFC in Andaman and Nicobar Islands ensures: High-speed broadband connectivity, fast and reliable mobile and landline telecom services, big boost to the local economy, delivery of e-governance, telemedicine and tele-education,” the PM tweeted after the inauguration via video conferencing.
The PM had laid the foundation stone for the project in Port Blair on December 30, 2018.
