Jharsuguda: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the newly constructed Jharsuguda airport during his one-day visit to Odisha on September 22.
Confirming the news, Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram said the Prime Minister will arrive at the Jharsuguda Airport in a special aircraft from New Delhi on September 22 and dedicate the airport to the people of Odisha and the nation.
He will also dedicate a new railway line of the Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL) between Jharsuguda and Sardega in Sundargarh district. The railway line has been constructed at a cost of Rs 1044 crore to evacuate 100 million tonnes of coal from Basundhara Area of MCL in Hemgir block.
Apart from this, the Prime Minister will also dedicate two new coal mines in Sundargarh district.
The Prime Minister will then leave for Talcher in an Indian Air Force helicopter where he will lay the foundation stone for the renovation of the Talcher Fertiliser plant.
He will return to Jharsuguda Airport at about 5 pm and leave for New Delhi.
Special arrangements will be made in consultation with the state and the district administration for the visit of the Prime Minister to the state. “We will invite the leaders of all political parties during the inauguration of the Jharsuguda Airport,” Oram said.
The airport has been built on an area of 909.22 acres at a cost of Rs 175 crore of which the state government has chipped in with Rs 50 crore.
The airport is also equipped with an ATS tower, a runway of the required length and electrification, emergency health and other associated facilities.
The airport has secured 4C license making it eligible for landing and take-off of bigger aircraft like the A-320 Airbus with a maximum capacity of 180 passengers.
