PM Modi Lays Stone For Yoga Research Centre In Odisha, Extends Ayushman Bharat Scheme To 70+

Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday laid the foundation stone of Central Research Institute of Yoga and Naturopathy (CRIYN) and a 100-bed Ayurvedic hospital at Jatni in Odisha’s Khurda, via video-conferencing.

Modi also inaugurated the Central Drugs Testing Laboratory at Gothapatna in Bhubaneswar, while launching development projects related to healthcare and extending his government’s flagship health insurance scheme Ayushman Bharat to all senior citizens aged 70 years and above. He also unveiled a Critical Care Block in Bargarh district.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi attended the inaugural event at Gothapatna.

Finally…

The CRIYN will come up over 21 acres of land and become a reality 10 years after the plan was proposed.

It was in 2014 that Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN), an autonomous body under the Ministry of AYUSH, announced its plans to set up the institute for chronic diseases and a 100-bed yoga and naturopathy hospital with a state-of-the-art yoga hall and a laboratory at an estimated cost of Rs 25 crore in Bhubaneswar.

However, the project was stalled as CCRYN could not take possession of the 20 acre land due to alleged lackadaisical attitude of the local administration. Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi recently requested the CM to issue appropriate directions to the Khurda administration to make the land available for the institute.

This was supposed to be the third such facility in the country after Karnataka and Haryana.

Wait For Ayushman To End…

The centre’s health coverage scheme Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana will allow people aged above 70 to get free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh in hospitals listed in the panel under the scheme. The beneficiary, however, must hold an “Ayushman Vay Vandana Card’.

It will, however, be implemented in Odisha by the end of the current financial year, after March or April 2025.

On Monday, Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling said that preparations have begun for implementation of part 2 of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in the state. “A budgetary provision of Rs 3,500 crore has been made for this purpose. We will integrate the state’s Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana with the central AB-PMJAY and issue a single card for the beneficiaries,” the minister said.

New cards will be issued to about 1 crore beneficiaries, he said.

The previous BJD government did not implement the central scheme in Odisha and instead launched its health assurance scheme, the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY), which has now been renamed Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana (G-JAY) by the BJP government.

Mahaling further stated that while about 950 healthcare units were empanelled under the state-sponsored scheme, the beneficiaries of Ayushman Bharat will be able to avail the facilities at nearly 27,000 hospitals across the country.
