New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for Italy on Thursday to attend the G7 summit.
PM Modi, who is attending the summit for the fifth time, will participate in the G7 Outreach Summit on June 14.
G7 is the annual summit of leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) countries – Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States.
However, there are special invitees too, including India which is considered to be one of the most influential nations now.
With the heads of state of India and Canada both at the summit, the obvious question is whether Modi and Justin Trudeau will have a one-on-one meeting.
The two leaders will surely be meeting each other, but as of now, no bilateral meeting has been planned.
Diplomatic ties between the two countries hit an all-time low after the Canadian PM accused India of being involved in the murder of a Canadian-Sikh leader on their soil.
India has repeatedly denied the charge, asking for evidence.
New Delhi has also alleged that Canada has not been willing to address the rise of Khalistani terrorism there, directed towards India.
India has been unhappy with Trudeau for repeatedly lecturing on human rights without providing any concrete evidence of the involvement of Indian agencies in the killing of Bhindranwale Tiger Force terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey, Vancouver, on June 18, 2023.
