Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on Sunday conferred the inaugural Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award, named after the legendary singer who passed away at the age of 92 on February 6.
Modi received the award from Lata’s sisters Asha Bhosle, Meena Khadikar, Usha Mangeshkar and brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar on the 80th death anniversary of their father Master Deenanath Mangeshkar.
The award will be given every year for exemplary contribution towards nation building, said a statement from Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Smruti Pratishthan charitable trust.
Veteran actors Asha Parekh and Jackie Shroff received the Master Deenanath Puraskar (special honour) for their “dedicated services in the field of cinema”.
