New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said preventing examination paper leaks is a “national responsibility” and stressed that students’ interests must remain paramount, as the govt faces mounting criticism over the NEET paper leak controversy and ongoing protests led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).
Addressing the NDA parliamentary party’s “Mangal Milan” programme, Modi said there should be no politics over paper leaks and assured that the Centre was committed to ensuring strict action against those responsible. He said the government was taking all necessary steps to prevent such incidents from recurring and appealed for confidence in the measures being implemented. The Prime Minister’s remarks came amid sustained protests by the CJP, which has been demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET paper leak and examination irregularities. The protests escalated after clashes between demonstrators and Delhi Police near Parliament on Monday, leaving scores injured.
Modi reiterated that the welfare of students was the government’s top priority and said those involved in compromising the integrity of examinations would face stringent punishment. He also called for constructive discussions based on facts rather than political confrontation. The CJP, led by Abhijeet Dipke, has accused the government of failing to address recurring paper leaks and has sought accountability in the education system. Following Monday’s violence, the organisation announced it would suspend further protest marches to avoid more injuries, while stating that its campaign for examination reforms would continue through other means.
