New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 36th National Games at a grand opening ceremony to be held at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday evening.
A drone show and dazzling fireworks display will welcome Modi, who will address athletes from across the country before declaring the Games open. Competitions will be held from September 29 to October 12.
This is the first time that Gujarat is hosting the National Games.
Around 15,000 sportspersons, coaches and officials from across the country will assemble in Gujarat for events in 36 sports disciplines, making it the biggest National Games ever.
The events will be held in six cities of the state — Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and Bhavnagar.
Kerala had staged the 35th National Games, was back in 2015.
