New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emerged as the world’s most popular democratic leader, securing the top spot in the latest Global Leader Approval Ratings survey released by US-based research firm Morning Consult.
According to the survey, conducted between July 4 and 10, Modi received an approval rating of 75%, the highest among democratic leaders worldwide. The poll reflects the views of adults across several major democracies, using a seven-day rolling average.
South Korean President Lee Jae-myung followed in second place with 59% approval, while Argentine President Javier Milei and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum also featured in the top five rankings. However, former US President Donald Trump — who returned to office earlier this year — failed to secure a place in the top five, ranking eighth with approximately 44% approval.
Modi has consistently led this global approval index over the past few years, frequently registering ratings above 70%. In January 2025, he had topped the list with a 76% rating, while Trump then stood at fifth position with 52% approval.
The latest results indicate not only Modi’s sustained popularity but also a decline in Trump’s international standing since resuming office. The Morning Consult survey tracks approval ratings for leaders in over a dozen democracies, including the United States, India, Germany, Australia, and the United Kingdom.
Modi’s continued dominance in global leadership ratings has drawn reactions from several political quarters in India, with leaders from the ruling BJP hailing the results as a testament to his leadership on the world stage.
Meanwhile, Trump’s slip in the rankings has sparked fresh debate in American political circles as he navigates his second presidential term.
Morning Consult’s findings are based on thousands of interviews conducted daily across the countries surveyed, with margins of error varying by country.
