New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s younger brother Prahlad Modi plans to join a protest march against the Central government in the Capital in August.
The protest march is being organized by All India Fair Price Shop Dealers’ Federation, of which Prahlad Modi is vice-president.
The federation’s demand is that the Central government should increase and fix a uniform rate of commission for fair price shop dealers across the country.
If the demands are not met within July, the organization will go ahead with its planned march on August 2. The march will begin at Ramlila Maidan and end at Parliament.
Licensed fair price shops (FPS) distribute essential commodities like rice, wheat and other commodities to ration card holders.
Prahlad Modi, who owns a ration shop in Ahmedabad, said that he is not protesting against his brother, but against the government’s policies.
“Bina maange toh maa bhi nahin deti (even a mother doesn’t provide without being asked). I work with the organization, I do what it deems fit. I will render full support to what the organization decides to do,” Prahlad Modi was quoted as saying by ThePrint.
The brothers haven’t met since Modi became PM in 2014, Prahlad said.
“Even when he meets our mother, Heeraben, nobody from the family is present there,” he said.
