Mumbai: During his recent visit to Mumbai, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met an old schoolmate and took note of problems he is facing over a decades old land dispute.
Asgarali Vohra (81), who studied with PM Modi at B N School in Vadnagar, Gujarat, met the him on September 8, asking for justice and a CBI probe into the case, as reported by The Times of India.
He later said that he was hopeful of getting justice after receiving a positive response from Modi.
Maharashtra transport minister Pratap Sarnaik released photographs and a press note about the meeting. He also expressed hope that Modi would ensure justice for his schoolmate.
Vohra had allegedly purchased around 2,810 square metres of land in Navghar, Bhayander East, through a registered agreement in 1989. According to him, the property was allegedly encroached upon in 2011 by Swayam Builders and Seven Eleven Constructions. The latter is associated with BJP MLA Narendra Mehta.
Forged documents were allegedly prepared in connection with the property while the original owner was kept unaware of the developments, Vohra further claimed.
According to his allegations, the land was subsequently divided into two portions, with possession recorded in the names of Swayam Builders and Seven Eleven Constructions.
An FIR was registered in connection with the matter in 2015, and the case is currently pending before a court, it has been reported.
Vohra said he spent years approaching different government authorities in an attempt to resolve the dispute. These included the revenue department, municipal authorities and the police. The municipal administration has taken note of the matter after he met the Prime Minister.
The matter has now moved towards a fresh hearing at the municipal level. A hearing has been scheduled for September 16, with representatives of both Seven Eleven Constructions and Swayam Builders directed to remain present.
