New Delhi: At a time when the Opposition is showing determination to forge a strong alliance with the formation of INDIA front and challenging the Centre on Manipur issue with a no-trust motion in Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a strong pitch for next year’s Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing the audience after inaugurating the revamped India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) complex at Pragati Maidan here on Wednesday evening, Modi gave a guarantee about his ‘third term’.
“In my third term, India will proudly stand as the top three economies with the two other nations… Yeh Modi ki guarantee hai (this is Modi’s guarantee),” he said.
“I would also want to assure people of this country that after 2024, India’s development journey will be expedited,” he added.
Modi was sworn in as Prime Minister in May 2014 after BJP won 282 seats in Lok Sabha polls. Five years later, Modi earned a second term after BJP won an overwhelming 303 seats.
Taking a jibe at the Opposition, Modi said some people have a tendency to stop good works.
“When ‘Kartavya Path’ was being built, many things were running on the front page of newspapers as breaking news. It was raised in courts as well, but when it was constructed, the same people said that it is good. I am sure the ‘Toli’ will also accept ‘Bharat Mandapam’ and it is also possible that they might come here to deliver a lecture in a seminar,” the PM said about the new ITPO complex, which will host the G20 Leaders’ Summit in September.
According to Prime Minister’s Office, the International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC) will be among the leading exhibition and convention complexes in the world.
The facility, built after an overhaul of the old and outdated structures at Pragati Maidan, has been developed as a national project at a cost of about Rs 2,700 crore, with a campus area of around 123 acres.
