PM To Inaugurate India’s First AC Railway Terminal In This City

India’s first centralised air-conditioned railway terminal is ready and will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi “very soon.”

The swanky Sir M Visvesvaraya Railway Terminal in Bengaluru, constructed over an area of 4,200 square metres, has seven platforms, eight stabling lines and three pit lines. The station can operate 50 trains daily, but is likely to start with pairs of trains.

“We have planned for the inauguration and are waiting for a date from the Prime Minister’s Office. The terminal will become operational very soon,” Railway Board Chairman and CEO Suneet Sharma said after an inspection.

With the Prime Minister busy campaigning for assembly elections in four states and a union territory, he’s may not be available before April-end or early May.

“The Railways has provided state-of-the-art facilities, which include centralised air conditioning, seven platforms, escalators and spacious parking lots. The terminal will give much-needed respite for railway passengers as it will help in decongesting the other two operational terminals (KSR Bengaluru and Yeshwanthpur) in the city,” Sharma said, adding that the new terminal at Baiyappanahalli will be the “best station of India Railways.”

Earlier this month, Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal had shared pictures of the terminal on Twitter.
