Lucknow: A Lucknow sessions court on Monday rejected the bail petition of Siddique Kappan in the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
District judge Sanjay Shankar Pandey concluded the hearing on PMLA case, but reserved his judgment on October 12.
The Kerala-based journalist was granted bail by Supreme Court last month after being arrested under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act on sedition charges for alleged conspiracy linked to the 2020 Hathras gangrape and murder case.
However, Kappan couldn’t walk out of jail in September as ED’s case under PMLA was pending.
Kappan and three others — Athikur Rehman, Alam and Masood — were arrested in Mathura for alleged links with the now-banned Popular Front of India (PFI) and alleged conspiracy to instigate violence.
