Balangir: Forest officials nabbed five poachers for allegedly killing an elephant for tusks and trading with the ivory in Odisha’s Balangir on Sunday.
According to sources, the ivory which was about to be trafficked out of state, was recovered from the accused.
The Balangir Range officials said that few days back the poachers had setup a trap for boars in Asura Dunguri forest.
A tusker, which was accidentally trapped in it succumbed to injuries. Following this, the poachers allegedly detusked the pachyderm for illegal trade, the forest officials said.
A case has been registered in this connection and further investigation is on.
